I wouldn't want to alarm you unnecessarily but it is a fact that malware can be distributed by the use of genuine looking notices suggesting that software needs reinstalling. Are you still getting the notices, if so, is it clear where they originate from eg: the page/site you are trying to view, Windows or Chrome itself and could you copy down the exact wording and post it here? You might want to run the version check referred to in this Adobe article to see what, if any, plugin version you do have installed.
You only need to update shockwave once because it will run the same. In IE & Firefox go to & install the newest version of adobe flash player. FYI: In chrome adobe flash player is built into the browser & can only be updated automatically. Since loading Windows 10 build 10130 on my Dell XPS laptop. You say that you receive notices advising you that Shockwave has crashed and suggesting that you reinstall it. I don't have Google Chrome either but I am aware that a version of Flash is integrated into that browser so that users don't need the separately downloaded plugin unless they have a specific requirement for it, see this Adobe article:
